The beloved activity I put off after becoming a parent

What fave activity have you put off since becoming a parent? ๐Ÿค”

For me, it's salsa dancing. I used to compete. I used to train 5 nights a week. I used to gig.

Once I fell pregnant, I felt too sick to dance. And once my bub was born, I felt too shattered and rushed off my feet to even TRY to add another thing to our family's schedule.

It didn't help that my perfectionistic brain shouted out fears like:

๐Ÿ˜ฌ What if you can't dance as well as before?

๐Ÿ˜ฌ What if youโ€™re so out of shape you get so exhausted/sore/asthmatic you have to stop in the middle of class?

๐Ÿ˜ฌ What if everyone expects you to dance better?

๐Ÿ˜ฌ What if you still have baby-brain and can't remember the choreography as well as you used to?

You feeling me? Itโ€™s the old โ€œIโ€™m not good enoughโ€ drama, and if Iโ€™m honest, becoming a parent has pushed this stress response to the forefront again.

But! Last night, for the first time in 2 years, I did a dance class!

It almost didn't happen. The universe seemed to be checking if I REALLY wanted to do itโ€ฆ

... I had a last minute cancellation at work so couldโ€™ve gone home early instead.

... My login details to book class online weren't working.

... I had stomach cramps.

... My asthma started playing up.

45 mins to class time and I still hadn't booked it ๐Ÿ˜…

But I got there in the end! Body movement, music, hugs with friends and endorphins - yay! Afterwards I felt exhilarated and happily yelled, โ€œI did it!โ€ in my car ha! ๐Ÿ˜„

I'm PROUD of myself. For BEING BRAVE and doing something I was anxious about. For taking time away from my family and biz to do something FOR ME. For TRUSTING MY BODY to stretch, strengthen and tell me its limits when it needed to. Now that I've had a taste I want MORE!

Iโ€™d love to hear that Iโ€™m not the only one who took 2 years to do something they loved - please share in comments!
